Lakefront Santa Cruz Property #280
Exceptional Lakefront property in excellent location with house exterior built from stone and high quality materials such as marble, cypress and mahogony wood and terra cotta tiles used throughout the house. Features large spacious and fully equipped kitchen with large pantry area, large veranda, shop, caretaker house, garden shed, coffee farm and guesthouse with suite potential.

Words from the owner who built this house:
Having lived in many diverse tropical settings, I long ago fell in love with the idea of having one’s house being a part of nature. I believe it was Frank Lloyd Wright who said, in effect, it is defensible to build on some incredible spot in nature only if one’s efforts served to enhance and not detract from the surrounding beauty.

Hence the owners decision to use as many natural and local sources of building materials as possible and to try to make the house blend in with it’s surroundings.

The house is built of a lovely blue green stone which was hand cut from the shore of the lake approx 20-30 stones a day and then carried to the site by wooden canoe.

Four native woods were used: tongue and groove cypress for the ceilings, red cedar for all furniture and window frames, mahogany for counter tops and stair steps, and bolador, an extremely hard, heavy, dense teak like wood for all roof beams and flooring for the bed room.
Window lintels, bathroom and kitchen counter tops are in native marble.

The lay out of the house is quite simple--- as much open space as possible, LARGE windows which open to the air.

The ground floor consists of a large, well equipped kitchen (lots of pantry space), main dining-living area, music center, 40” HD flat screen TV, spacious office w’ incredible view, and Master bathroom w/ double sink, large tiled walk in shower w/ double shower heads.

All ground level floors are done in ‘baldosa’ or terra cotta tiles.
A semi circular stair way leads to the 2nd level bedroom w/ its king size bed, bolador wood flooring and extensive closets. The upstairs bathroom has its own toilet, double sink basin and lockable secure storage room.

There is also a wide veranda across the entire upper lakeside of the house.

Down stairs, adjacent to the house is a large double door shop which includes a 2 HP table saw, 6 “ Makita planer, 10” circular saw, heavy duty hammer drill, and 5000KW Honda generator among other items. Nearby here is also a small, fully furnished small guest house/ office complete w/ sink, bathroom w/ toilet, armoire, computer desk and large futon.

ANCILLARY STRUCTURES/BUILDINGS

Behind the house is a double roomed ‘laundry/storage center’ which includes a Frigidaire washer/dryer and a section for PVC tubing, and other storage. On the East back of the property there is also a suite of 4 small attached rooms. 1 has a gas stove and is suitable for a kitchen, the next 2 are planned as potential bedrooms and the last is a bathroom w/ toilet and shower.
One room also houses a hand cranked coffee pulping mill. Further in back of the house there is a small cafetal (coffee farm) which produces ~ 200 lbs of finished coffee/ year. This land is included in the house sale.

Also a separate, smaller ‘bodega’, which houses gardener’s tools and equipment.

ENERGY/WATER SUPPLIES.

Has small solar system which has been expanded to 4, 100 Watt + 2, 60 watt panels which feed 2, 275 Watt hour sealed storage batteries which in turn deliver 110 v AC power to the house via inverter. Has a master switch inside the house so one can seamlessly switch from solar to grid in the laundry area. The refrigerator, large 4-burner stove and hot water heater all rely on propane.

Water if pumped by gasoline powered pump to a 6 meters high 750-gallon water tank directly behind the house. Lastly there is an electrically driven pressure tank system should additional water pressure be desired.
